Hello, all! And welcome back for another update. Here is a snapshot of what is new in my life.

I attended a North American Rhodes Scholar Reunion in New York City. I went alone, but soon after arrival I connected with new Oxonians from various years. Old and young. Alum and current. There were a wide array of scholars present. Fortunate was I to befriend these incredible people. The highlight of the night was conversing with Rhodes Scholars from my 2009 class. We have come some way from our DC Bon Voyage Weekend to medical and law schools, post docs and professional careers. It was a treat and I made a personal pledge to not let so much time pass again before we all see each other.

Right after the Reunion weekend, I made the un-scenic drive from New Jersey to Pittsburgh. The roads were winding, there were signs reading “Falling Rocks,” and the truckers were bullies. Glory to God that I arrived safely in the 412. I moved into my new digs then drove around the city to get familiar with the route to work. The next day, I went to work for the Steelers for the first time and I was excited. The coaches, the players, the structure, the air of the team all conveyed the same message: We expect greatness and Superbowls. The rest of the week went well as I conditioned my body on the field/weight room and exercised my mind in the classroom. What a great start! Furthermore, 47 is my number here and I told my brother that there is a cool story behind it. When I was young growing up in Galloway Township, NJ, my hometown athletic hero was Pete Hunter. He made it to the NFL out of Virginia Union and started for the Dallas Cowboys at cornerback. He had a local rap song made in his honour and his name created a positive buzz all around the streets. The summer after my high school freshman year, I went out to Atlantic City High to train and Pete Hunter showed up. He heard about me and began to teach me as his pupil. Pete was THAT guy for me. He made my NFL dream tangible. And what number did he wear as a pro? Yep, 47. Full circle.

My other endeavours include more public speeches and preparing with the Florida Department of Children and Family Services for our 4th annual Myron Rolle Wellness and Leadership Academy for Florida foster children. The latter is the hallmark initiative for my foundation and I am looking forward to another great summer edifying our Florida youth. They are already champs, we are just helping them realize it.

Thanks for reading. Please peruse the site and get involved at your discretion. Until next time, my friends!

As many of you know, I was released by the Tennessee Titans at the beginning of this football season. I thoroughly enjoyed my year spent with the team and the city of Nashville. Through the leadership, coaching and teammates of the Titans organization, I have become a better player; certainly a more football-knowledgeable player. I had a strong pre-season and I still believe the space to grow exists. I look forward to my next opportunity on the field and I remain ready for my NFL career to resume. So ready.

Aside from intense training back home in New Jersey and tryouts for NFL teams, I have been keeping busy as a Board of Trustee member of Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia. I am a member of the Student-Affairs and Athletic Committees, respectively. Already a fine liberal arts institution of higher learning, I hope my youthful exuberance and ideological principles can help elevate Hampden-Sydney to another level. This is my first Board appointment and I am by far the youngest member in the room, but I refuse to be intimidated. God has placed me in this position in life for a reason, so my obligation is to deliver my best qualities to the position in an effort to honour Him, my family and those who entrusted me with this lofty responsibility.

Oh yeah, I just celebrated my 25th birthday with a snow storm, a Florida State molly whopping over NC State, and an Arabic Rosetta Stone.

I will check back soon to provide another update for you all. Thanks for your support! Salaam.

A few CGI Lead members/organizers and I arose early to visit a Rwandan genocide museum where thousands of mass graves were on site. We took an audio tour of the museum which educated us on the colonial influence, propaganda, severity of the violence, aftermath and personal narratives of genocide survivors. It was the absolute most sobering experience of my life. Disgust and horror hit me first, then I felt encouraged by the strength of the Rwandan people to recover and move onward to their desired prosperity. After the museum, we flew to another part of Rwanda where the International Rescue Committee staff greeted and transported us across the border to the DRC. We had a few meetings on logistics, planning and personal/collective goals from our trip. I believe we have a clearer understanding of our purpose to use networks, resources & influence to innovatively improve a system which unfortunately currently produces a non functional community in the DRC.

I survived an innocuous flight from the US to Amsterdam. There, I joined with fellow CGI Lead members and organizers. We traveled to Kigali, Rwanda which would serve as our stop over point before we make the trek to the DRC. After a bit of lost luggage scare, we drove to our hotel, Kigali Serina, passing another hotel – the infamous one depicted in the movie Hotel Rwanda. After a night of food and lively discourse, we retired for our early departure the following morning. Rwanda is full of history and before we left, we would receive a master’s level tutorial on the subject.
